What & why

Making your website show early in search results helps people find you.

We need to help search engines understand our content, our search keywords—and write content for human beings.

Organizing & categorizing content will really help websites show in search results.

Set up

  1. Form into pairs
  2. Use Mill Street Florist’s old website
  3. Work together to improve the SEO for the site
  4. Discuss the solution as a group

We’ll be using the archived version of their website because the new one is much better.

Focus on these pages

These links are gonna be a little slow—so open them up in separate tabs and wait them out.

A. Determine the focus

  1. Figure out the focus of the website & each page
  2. Determine the top 5 keywords people might search
  3. Massage the keywords for the 3 different pages
  4. Prioritize the keywords for each page from 1–5

You will end with 15 prioritized keywords—keywords can (and should) repeat on pages

B. Improve the SEO for every page

Pay attention to your top 5 keywords!

  1. Write a unique & helpful <title> for each page
  2. Write a max 150 character description for each page
  3. Improve keywords in the <h1>
  4. Improve keywords in the first <p> tag
  5. Improve keywords in the <a> tags (navigation?)
  6. Improve keywords in the URLs

C. Structure the information

  1. Prepare content for Schema.org objects:

    • Title
    • Description
    • Preview image
